Plus Size Nightwear That Fits: A Brand-by-Brand Guide (UK 18 and Up)

Plus size nightwear is sold under letters that mean different things from one label to the next. A UK 18 is an XXL at one brand, a 2XL at another and a 2XL/3XL at a third. This guide goes label by label, using the UK equivalents each brand publishes.

A note on range. We quote only what the brands publish: the charts here give clear UK equivalents up to UK 20, and where a chart stops, we say so rather than guess.

To use it, find your brand, find your UK size on its chart, and then check the chart on the product page before you order.

One letter, different sizes

XL is UK 14–16 at both Irall and Roza. At YesX there is no separate XL on the chart: L/XL is UK 12–14. At Me Seduce, L/XL is UK 14–16. The same letters can sit a size or two apart, so never choose by letter alone.

Ranges can also touch. Irall's L is UK 12–14 and its XL is UK 14–16, so a UK 14 appears in both. For a wrap-front gown, take the larger. For a fitted nightdress, follow your measurements.

The plus end of each brand's chart

  • Irall: XXL is UK 16–18. The Cameron line also lists 2XL–5XL.
  • Beauty Night: XXL is UK 16–18.
  • Roza: 2XL is UK 16–18.
  • YesX: 2XL/3XL is UK 16–18, and some styles go up to 5XL.
  • Me Seduce: 2XL/3XL is UK 18–20.
  • Shirley of Hollywood: XL is UK 16, with sizes 1X to 3X above it.

A UK 18 sits at the top of the Irall, Beauty Night, Roza and YesX ranges, and at the bottom of Me Seduce's. At the top of a range, read the chart carefully and measure before you order.

Me Seduce is the only chart we hold that prints UK 20. Above that, none of the charts here gives a UK figure, so the chart on the product page matters even more.

The top of the Irall chart

At Irall, UK 10, 12, 14 and 16 each sit on the line between two sizes, while UK 8 and UK 18 belong to one size only. A UK 18 is therefore an XXL with no larger size to move up to in the main line, apart from the Cameron range, so measure before you order.

When the chart stops

Provocative's published chart covers UK 6–16, with L/XL at UK 12–16 and a one-size option at UK 6–16, so it is not the label to start with at UK 18 or above.

Some labels list larger sizes without a UK conversion in the information we hold: Irall's Cameron line (2XL–5XL), the YesX styles that go to 5XL, and Shirley of Hollywood's 1X–3X. For those, use the size chart on the product page and compare it with your own measurements. We have not converted them to UK numbers here because, as the examples above show, the letters are not standard from one brand to the next.

Styles that forgive

A wrap-front dressing gown with a tie belt fits comfortably across two sizes, which makes it the most forgiving nightwear at any size. Irall's satin dressing gowns, such as the Elodie in plum and the Nikita in jade, are listed up to XXL, which is UK 16–18 on Irall's chart. Check each product page for the wrap front and belt.

Nightdresses and chemises usually have no belt to adjust, so match your measurements to the chart more closely.

Bras

For bras, Nudea has the widest published range of the three bra labels in this guide: bands 30–42 and cups A–GG. Gracya lists bands 30–38, and Confidante bands 28–36 with cups A–FF. Check the band first, then the cup. If you are buying a bra and a nightdress together, size each on its own chart, because your dress size does not tell you your band.

If your size comes from a European label, UK 38 is EU 85 and UK 40 is EU 90, but cup letters do not convert one for one, so use the brand's chart for the cup.

Measure first, then check the policy

The charts in this guide are given as UK dress sizes, so your usual UK size is the place to start. Take your bust, waist and hip measurements, compare them with the chart on the product page, and read the fibre content too. Hosiery is different again: it is sized by hip measurement and height, so your dress size is no guide there.

Nightwear and robes can be returned: you have 14 days to change your mind. Sealed intimates and hosiery cannot be returned once opened, so check those sizes before you open the pack.
