Nightwear Gifts for Her: A Christmas Guide That Gets the Size Right

Most nightwear gifts go wrong in one place: the size. The style is usually fine; it is the label inside that causes the trouble. A little planning, and one sensible choice of garment, removes most of the risk.

This guide covers which styles forgive a size error, seven gifts at real prices, how to find a size without asking, and when to order for Christmas.

The same logic holds whether you are buying for a partner, a mother, a sister or a friend. What changes is how much you know about her size and taste, not the way to choose.

Start with a style that forgives

A wrap-front dressing gown with a tie belt fits comfortably across two sizes, which makes it the safest nightwear gift when you do not know an exact size. Irall's chart shows why: S is UK 8–10, M is UK 10–12, L is UK 12–14, XL is UK 14–16 and XXL is UK 16–18, so each size already spans two UK sizes.

Irall nightwear also comes in the maker's gift box, and every LuxiDoo order ships in plain, unbranded outer packaging. If the parcel is going to her home or a shared address, nothing on the outside says what is inside.

Seven gifts, with prices

Prices were correct when this guide was written in October 2026; the product page always shows the current price.

Delivery is free in the UK on orders over £50 and £3.95 below that, so any gift priced over £50 ships free on its own. The first three below are under £50; the other four are over.

If you are working to a budget, the Shelby and the Latifa, both £39.99, are the lowest-priced here, and the Daphne at £64.49 is the highest. A gift under £50 pays £3.95 delivery unless the basket passes £50.

The two nightdresses are the better choice when you know her size, because a nightdress usually has no belt to adjust. The dressing gowns are the easier gift when you do not.

Choosing a colour

If you are unsure of her taste, cream and champagne are the quietest choices here. Plum, jade green and azure blue are bolder, and the purple of the Shelby sits somewhere between the two. Look at what she already wears and sleeps in, and choose a shade she would pick herself.

Getting the size right when you cannot ask

Look at the label in a nightdress or robe she already owns. A European label of 38 is a UK 10, 40 is a UK 12 and 42 is a UK 14. French labels are two higher, so a UK 10 reads 40 in France.

If she falls between two Irall sizes, such as a UK 12 that appears in both M and L, choose the larger for a wrap-front gown. A slightly generous robe is easier to wear than a tight one. For a nightdress, follow the chart more closely.

If she is above UK 18

Irall's main chart ends at XXL, which is UK 16–18. For larger sizes, look in the plus sizes collection and check the size chart on each product page before you order.

Order by mid-December

For standard UK delivery in time for Christmas, order by mid-December. Earlier is easier, and it leaves time to check the size when the parcel arrives.

Nightwear and robes can be returned if the size is wrong, and you have 14 days to change your mind. If you order early, bear that window in mind.

A short checklist before you order

Know her UK size, or find it from a label. Decide whether the piece wraps or fits close. Check the delivery cut-off against Christmas. Keep the 14-day window in mind if the gift is bought early.

What to avoid for a gift

Sealed intimates and hosiery cannot be returned once opened, so for a gift we would keep to nightwear and robes unless you are certain of the size. Bras in particular need both a band and a cup, and a guess at either is easy to get wrong. Hosiery is sized by hip measurement and height rather than dress size, so it is another gift that needs her measurements, not a guess.
